House Bill 2044 allows disabled veterans to receive a set of Disabled Veteran license plates free of charge, and receive a second set of plates for $24. House Bill 167 allows a surviving spouse and surviving parents of a person who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces to obtain a set of Gold Star license plates on request. Senate Bill 489 allows the issuance of Support Our Troops license plates for purchase by the public.
Additional legislation was passed by the General Assembly to memorialize Illinois service members or law enforcement officials who have fallen in the line of duty. House Bill 3618 requires the Governor to order the display of flags on state property at half-staff following the death of an Illinois Soldier or law enforcement official. |
